Office 2010 server products such as SharePoint Server, SharePoint Foundation and Project Server are supported on the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Office 2010 64-bit is supported on 64-bit editions of Windows Vista SP1, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Obviously only the 32-bit version can be installed on a 32-bit version of Windows, but there should not be the automatic assumption that if you’re running a 64-bit version of Windows, that the 64-bit version of Office is the logical choice.

If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows deciding on which version to install will depend completely on how you use Microsoft Office.
